LEGACY PROJECT
Leave your mark as leaders.
What is a Legacy Project?
A Legacy Project is the capstone of your leadership journey. It is a meaningful initiative designed to leave a lasting impact on your organization, community, or future program participants. It reflects the leadership lessons you’ve learned and contributes something of value beyond your time in the program.
Purpose

- Inspire and support future leaders
- Strengthen the mission or values of your organization or community
Common Elements to Include:
- Clear purpose and intended audience

- Connection to the leadership lessons learned
Project Guidelines
- Purpose-Driven
The project should clearly serve a need or opportunity aligned with the values of the leadership program or organization. - Original & Impactful
Projects should be innovative, relevant, and designed to make a measurable or meaningful difference. - Collaborative (if applicable)
You may work solo or as a team. Group projects should clearly define roles and responsibilities. - Self-Sustaining or Transferable
- Projects must be designed to sustain themselves without your continued involvement.
- If ongoing work is required, the project must include a sustainability plan: who will carry it forward, how it will be maintained, and what resources are needed.
- Avoid ideas that rely solely on personal energy or short-term motivation.
- Documented
Provide a simple handoff guide or documentation (brief outline, instructions, contact list, timeline, etc.) so others can continue the work or learn from your process. - Timeline & Feasibility
Consider the time, resources, and access needed. Projects should be realistic and achievable within the leadership program timeframe or shortly thereafter.
Examples of Legacy Projects:
- Creating a New Member Resource: A welcome kit, orientation video, or guidebook for incoming leaders or members.
- Launching an Initiative: Start a mentorship program, diversity campaign, or community outreach effort.
